Fish migration aid for the Ybbs-Persenbeug power station
Ybbs-Persenbeug on the Danube is Austria's oldest Danube power station. Completed in 1959, the power station was built at a narrow point in the Nibelungengau. The advantage of the location was that the construction made a dreaded spot for shipping less dangerous. Passability for fish means the challenge of finding a safe and functional bypass in a limited space. The fish migration aid runs in the vicinity of the power plant on the south side of the Danube (right bank).
Within sight of Ybbs-Persenbeug, at the Ybbser Scheibe, VERBUND constructed fish-friendly bank structures as part of the LIFE+ Network Danube project. Gravel islands and near-natural banks provide habitats and spawning grounds. The Ybbs-Persenbeug fish migration aid will increase the benefits of these spawning zones and enlarge the habitat.
